play catch up

I promised myself at the start of the year to pay attention to the books piling up in one corner of my room and keep up with my reading. January was good; I managed. But lately, this month of February, I couldn’t get pass through ten pages in one sitting. It is alarming. I wouldn’t blame the material. For all I know, my logo-hunger even covers reading can labels, road signs, and supermarket super sale posters.

It must be the weather. Yes, it must be it. If there’s nothing or no one else to point fingers to, I say it is due to the weather, erratic, always giving me the headache. So before the clouds would strike a bolt of lightning on me, here are the books I hope would be loved the way I have loved the books before them:

Ford County: Stories
John Grisham

Life Mask
Emma Donoghue

Wild Nights! Stories About the Last Days of Poe, Dickinson, Twain, James, and Hemingway
Joyce Carol Oates

The Cabal and Other Stories
Ellen Gilchrist

Midnight’s Children
Salman Rushdie

In my wish list, for now (while grappling with my maturing short-attention span):

The Elegance of the Hedgehog
Muriel Barbery

The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore
Benjamin Hale

Super Sad True Love Story
Gary Shteyngart

Freedom
Jonathan Franzen

Why, you'll purchase and hand them to me for free? I'd be a happy boy. :)

Now that's saddening. I thought you'd give them to me for free. Hehe.
